2. Brendan & Declan Murphy from The 4 of Us will be playing Barry’s Public House on Fri 31st July as part of the Grange Music Festival 2009. founding members, Brendan and Declan Murphy- the 4 of Us released their first album, Songs for the Tempted, withCBS Records in 1989, from which the single “Mary” reached No. 1 on the Irish charts. Consequently, the album went double platinum in Ireland and won Best Album of the Year at the Irish Music Awards,The album Man Alive followed on Sony/Columbia Records in 1992, and was considerably less successful than its predecessor; after this the band lost momentum and disappeared from the public eye for some years. They did not separate, however, and eventually returned to recording albums, releasingClassified Personal on a private label in 1999 and Off the Record on EMI in 2000. In 2003 the single “Sunlight”, which would appear on the 2004 album Heaven and Earth, began to receive heavy airplay, marking the group’s first major commercial success since their first album. In November 2006 the band released their most recent album,Fingerprints.
3. “Sunlight” was voted fourth in a poll to find the ‘best Irish single ever’, conducted by the national radio station, Today FM.
4. Yngve & the Innocent- The album, produced by Eoin Bailey, was recorded in Sligo with his band the ‘Space To Be Yourself Collective’; a concept which encourages an experimental approach, whereby musicians freely contribute to the creations. This endeavour has drawn together a talented motley crew of musicians, writers, artists and singers and on ‘Tell Men This’ the individual sparks light up this creative cauldron.
5. FuseboX a new band from Kinlough Co.leitrim. Currently Have 6 Members We play generally Rock music and whatever music is on the go at the time!! eg. PokerFace Kids! We Hope To see all of ye fans soon!! get ye goin clean mad!! as the saying goes!!

8. Joe Geia is an Australian musician of Murri Aboriginal heritage from North Queensland. Geia is a composer, guitarist, singer and didgeridoo player and has been recognised as one of the most influential figures in the development of contemporary Indigenous music. He first came to prominence as a member of the influential Aboriginal band No Fixed Address
9. The Rye are an extraordinary five-piece from the West Coast of Ireland. They present one of the freshest and most exciting approaches to Irish Music heard in recent times. Mike Farragher of the Irish Voice puts it thus: “The Rye play, in their words, ‘savage driven ceoil.’ They throw together modern rock melodies into a stew of expert traditional playing, turn-on-a-dime chops rarely seen outside a lower Manhattan jazz club, and an irreverence that ties the whole package together in a rowdy, exuberant bow!” A gig with The Rye is high-spirited, full-blown entertainment.

11. Oddsock Revival – Fresh back from touring with the renowned act Alabama 3, Oddsocks Revival are the Sligo act that have been making a strong impression on the music scene since 2003. A striking stage presence and blend of music styles has given them a solid rep as a band who will keep the good times rolling! Over the years the lads have built up a strong set of original tunes and the past two years have seen the band develop a truly original sound mixing humbucking blues and dirty funk grooves. Together with twin guitar leads and powerful four part vocal harmonies Oddsocks Revival have certainly set themselves apart from other present day bands. With an eclectic genre mix, Oddsocks revival attract a dedicated following of groove lovers of all ages and always deliver to desired expectations.

This eclectic offering, including everything from classic funk and future disco, is eagerly brought to you by two of those responsible for Funk Up. Slightly different from its predecessor (but just as entertaining), the musical focus of TomTom will be a mish-mash of electronic music, disco and funk with snippets of hip-hop and a little bit of indie thrown in for good measure!

TomTom is the culmination of much late-night musical yapping between Karl Conway and Liam Coen who finished doing Funk Up in 2007. They are confident that TomTom can satisfy the cravings of many of Sligo’s music fans who have been missing the “up-beat vibe which really fed into the party atmosphere that made Funk Up special” (Karl Conway).

According to Liam Coen: “the night is going to try to blend the recent past with the up-to-the-second present, putting the likes of James brown alongside James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) or the Cut Copy boys beside Grace Jones”.

Karl Conway said: “I’m really excited to play in Sligo again and to see what we can do with TomTom. I’m hoping to see some familiar faces throwing shapes.”

Hi all,

Thursday night we met some East 17 fans in The Clarence just before their performance. We stopped and asked few of them while they were still sober. (well, most of them) We had good craic when one of them sang a very known song of East 17 for SligoTV.
